Theme: Responding to God’s call
Text: Genesis 1:28
Then God said, “Let us make human beings[a] in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
For some days now, we have discussed why some of us may try to run from God’s call. Truth be told, I also found myself in some of the categories. But we will still give ourselves excuses until we know the urgency of the call (that is, why God calls us).
Over the summer break, I happened to watch a series on criminal investigations. When the authorities fail to respond to clues that they get, they put at risk their potential victims. God has called us because there are victims that need our attention. Let me start here. God gave man the legal right to take dominion over the Earth. However, the devil who has perfected in destruction has now corrupted the perfect system that God created for man. By this corruption, the entire human race, including God’s entire creation, is under this corrupted system.
In the fullness of time, however, God sent His Son to save that which was lost. Jesus responded to God’s call to help save the corrupt system. And that is God’s call to each and every one of us. God’s chooses and commissions people because there is a need. God is not calling you for your sake, but the victims that will be affected if you fail to respond to His call.
