Text: Hebrews 6: 16
Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that the oath is binding.
The personality and character of God, exhibited in Christ’s walk and relationship with man, is the source of our hope for the fulfilment of God’s promises. What God has said, surely, He will do.
The oath is binding without question when someone is called to hold the promisor responsible. But without finding anyone greater than Himself, He had to bind Himself with the oath. He did so that we can be assured that He will never change His mind and not because He would ever change His mind. Christ, upon giving Himself out as the perfect sacrifice for man from the beginning of the world and fulfilling that by coming to die, irrespective of the time it took for Him to do that, shows how much God is committed to His word.
Believing God for what He has said He will do is a natural response to the revelation of who you know Him to be. Knowing at His disposal the imminent consequences of the promise, He attaches time to it, and trains you up to receive them. So, if Christ never changed His mind about dying for us and the Father did not withhold Him from us, then be rest assured of every promise He had made to you.
