Theme: Be a Blessing
Text: 2 Kings 7:9
Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.”
MESSAGE
What good news do you have for people this Christmas and the year to come? Is it that same promises you keep giving without any corresponding actions or a conscious effort to give out of your excesses to bless others?
The lepers had the choice to keep everything to themselves. In the moment of abundance amidst the famine, they could not help themselves but enjoy what they found, keeping some for the days to come. However, after they had eaten to their full, they said to themselves that they had to send this good news to the people in the town. They hurriedly did so, and God’s word was fulfilled. Making the point clearer, the lepers made a conscious effort to help the others rather than enjoy it all. It was never said that God caused them to give through a prophecy or a man of God. He may have spoken to their consciences, but they chose to think of the others.
You have built yourself comfort in the things you have acquired. It is not wrong after being through all those moments of disgrace and famine. However, I believe you have eaten enough. It is high time you looked past your comfort and say to yourself that I have to be a channel of God’s fulfilled word to someone. There are still people in the city who are expecting to receive their blessing.
