Theme: The Lord, My refuge

Text: Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.

Last week, we learnt that the accidental murderer has the opportunity to run to the city of refuge to be safe from the avengers and may return to his city upon the death of the high priest in office.

The Lord is our refuge and His presence is the city we run into for the safety. Outside of His presence, we become preys to the enemies who seek to avenge us for what we have become. So Jesus explains that we should come unto Him all of us who are carrying burdens and are weary, and he will give us rest.

He is the high priest that was around when we sinned. As long as He is alive, we are assured of our safety. We no longer have to run miles for safety, the city of refuge is right where you are. He is our present help in times of need.
