The Penalty of Sin Part 2

TEXT: Genesis 2:15-17

… but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Let’s go back to the garden of Eden. The man was given the option of eating the fruit from any tree except that of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The consequence of their disobedience was a surety of death.

When Adam and Eve ate the fruit, they died (spiritually) and as a result, had to be taken out of Eden (God’s presence). Though Adam’s disobedience, we have all carried the death penalty, even from death; we were separated from God. It was enough to have died spiritually, because man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body.

That gives Paul the boldness to say that we were once dead. Although we were carrying out our duties physically, we had lost connection with divinity. What was God’s plan to restore the friendship?
