Theme: New Man in Christ
Old Self dealt with.
Text: Romans 6:6 (NIV)
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
MESSAGE
Your identity is defined by what you submit to; the association and relationships we maintain.
Our former self was corrupted by lust and deceit (Ephesians 4:22). Who we were in the beginning at creation was the image and after the likeness of God. Being the carbon copy of God’s true being, we lost that self when it was marred by the deceit of the devil and the lust of man. God, acknowledging our need and not our fault, paid the expensive price to re-own us and has created us in the image that His counsel established at the beginning.
On the cross of Calvary, our old selves were crucified with Christ. His death saw the end to that old self that we picked up as a result of disobedience, and through obedience to His Son, we can put on the new self.
