How do I know I have been chosen?

Text: Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

MESSAGE

Whenever a soldier is deployed for a special mission, then he will be informed by his superior. Until then, your recruitment as a soldier connotes choice for service.

Paul explains that we are God’s masterpiece. He has made us anew in Christ that we can walk in the predestined works that He had for us. Christ has given the five-fold ministry so that all the saints can be equipped for the works of service, and you are part of that army. It is worth noting that a soldier in any kingdom does not choose his assignment but acts upon the instructions from above.

A soldier’s response is not lip service, but that which is deeply rooted in loyalty, sacrifice and discipline. If you have accepted Christ as your LORD, then you have already been chosen for an assignment.

You have been chosen

Text: 1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

MESSAGE

God does not expect a parade of people with titles, but people who fear Him and are loyal to His commands.

We did not have an identity. We were lost in our proclivities to lust and wandered off like sheep without a shepherd. But God has made us living stones and has also made us His holy priests (1 Peter 2:5). Having, therefore, called us out of darkness into His light, we can also show others the goodness of God.

“How do I know if God has chosen me for an assignment in His Kingdom?”, you may want to know. Let’s leave that for another day.

MESSAGE

Every job vacancy needs to be filled with an appointed person. Every assignment from God needs a vessel to partner in its fulfilment.

God in His infinite wisdom has selected a generation for Himself. This generation was bred from His Son and commissioned into the world. Notwithstanding their sin creating a barrier in the relationship, He paid the price in full to ransom their souls from the eternal damnation that awaited them. Out of love, He chose a people and commissioned them as His ambassadors so He could reach out to others.

God chose you for fellowship. Out of His love for sinners, He commissions us to extend His love to the dying world. Are you ready to embark on His call duty?

Text: Acts 13:36

Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.

MESSAGE

Where God instructs, He directs. Where God directs, He demands loyalty and total obedience.

In this month’s series, we will study that we have been chosen for a special assignment; we are sent out by the Holy Spirit and we will receive help; we should expect and overcome oppositions and learn to accept the fact that our help may leave. In the end, we will be encouraged that we should not make God sorry for calling us for this assignment.

“We are the Bibles the world is reading; we are the creeds the world is needing; we are the sermon the world is heeding” – Billy Graham. Are you ready to serve the Lord’s purpose in this generation and beyond before you leave?

MESSAGE

The will of God stands sure and will be carried out.

God has always been working with a man to carry out His purpose. Having been recruited and empowered by the Holy Spirit and through the teachings of God’s word, God deploys us to do His bidding. His call to duty is to serve our generation and the impact will have a lasting effect on the generations to come.

The assignment is demanding yet can be done through the strengthening of the Holy Spirit in your inner man. Everything that God instructs us to do has its reward when carried out as He has instructed.

Remember where you started from.

Text: Nehemiah 1:4

When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven.

MESSAGE

We may have immigrated from our native countries, but God has a purpose for our birth country.

Nehemiah also tr gave up his wealthy and comfortable position in Persia. After recognising that things were not okay with the people who had returned to Jerusalem, he took time off to mourn, fast and prayed to God of Israel. His understanding of his beginning gave him the platform to cause much impact in Jerusalem.

Could it be that the reason you have travelled to another country to enjoy a comfortable and wealthy lifestyle is to be a blessing to the people back home? Just think about it.

Remember where you came from

Text: Daniel 9: 1-3 (NIV)

… in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.

MESSAGE

We put the focus on what lies ahead of us; we measure how far God has brought us by taking account where we started from.

Many times, we tend to forget where we started our journey. Having become comfortable with the wealth and fame of the position we are in, we forget the help we could offer the people and the place we started from. Daniel, having served under the administration of Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, was not satisfied with the comfort and security he had. He turned to the Lord and pleaded with him in prayer and fasting after learning that the prophecy of the return of the people of Judah was due it’s fulfilment.

One key to dominating through excellence is to remember where you began the journey from. It serves as a measure of growth, and when properly evaluated, humbles us to do better.

Text: Daniel 1:3

Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles,

MESSAGE

A little digging in my life application study bible revealed something I would like to share with us.

Jeremiah prophesied the capture of the people of Israel. Having gone through a lot of struggles as a result of his public rebuke and courageous preaching of the word of God, the people of Judah went into captivity. But in captivity, Daniel and his three companions served in the government structures and Ezekiel was the prophet to instruct them in the ways of the Lord.

Beloved, the task is enormous. All hand on board, we have to recapture the systems of the world for our Lord Jesus through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. So, be content with where he decides to send you.

Anticipate Opposition II

Text: Daniel 3:8; 6:4-9

At that time certain Chaldeans came forward and brought [malicious] accusations against the Jews. (Daniel 3:8 [AMP])

MESSAGE

I must admit that opposition is a very irritating experience. In moments like this, we tend to think of quitting our positions.

Every opposition is meant to take you out of position. Whenever you find people on your necks against what you are doing, it is a sign that they acknowledge your position. Because of many reasons, they are allowed to try their best to challenge your position. But excellence is only revealed when there is an exam or test.

Let me state in this concluding paragraph that you should not be surprised if the people you work with or close to are the sources of opposition.

Anticipate Opposition

Text: Daniel 3:8; 6:4-9

MESSAGE

Dorothy Height, an American activist once said and I quote, “Greatness is not measured by what a man or woman accomplishes, but by the opposition, he or she has overcome to reach his goals.

Daniel and his three companions faced great opposition in their leadership position. Daniel had to be thrown in the lion’s den, the three Hebrew boys had to be thrown in the furnace. But your true worth or value is not seen in times of comfort, but in moments of opposition and challenges.

Yes, God is keen on getting us to places of dominion. However, He will take you through the fire, so your true worth will be seen by all. Endure the hardship as a good soldier of Christ.
