Theme: Stay Focused

Text: Philippians 3: 12-14

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

MESSAGE

Obviously, you need to be focused to stay focused. Being focused entails setting your goals and having that charisma to get it accomplished. But staying focused is the character that gets you on the trail to the end.

It is not the beginning of a matter that matters, but the end thereof. Having great dreams and plans to achieve them does not make you successful, it only sends you a signal that you are a potential successful person. Taking advantage of the capability and adding unto it the character, your success story will be announced anytime soon. This process is what Paul defines as pressing on towards his goal.

To stay focused, you need to be focused on your thought, what you hear, what you say and what you do. This is where we will discuss more next week God willing.

Theme: Stay Focused

Text: Philippians 3:15-16

So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.

MESSAGE

Every focus has a goal. Your goal is that desire you want to accomplish. It is that desired result you want you have aimed at. That is where focus begins from.

Anyone who wants to focus on something has to begin with a goal. So Paul encouraged the Philippians to set their focus on that goal. We all have things we want to achieve. In the midst of the topsy-turvy world, the goal becomes blurred and impossible to achieve. With the goal still in mind, there is still hope. There is hope that the goal can be achieved.

Beloved, everything that is created or acquired begins in the form of desire. Your goals should be motivated by your desire and geared towards your purpose.  Stay focused, go after your dreams and keep moving toward your goals.

MESSAGE

One properly done task is more important than many pieces of work done unsatisfactorily, my mum would like to advise me. Just taking a focus on one thing at a time gives you access to the optimum impact you can make.

So many things catch our attention, but to gain control over something, we need to concentrate on that thing. Economist identified this problem, so they developed the concept of the scale of preference and opportunity cost. With the given resources (time inclusive), we may want to rationalise and get as many activities done as much as possible.

Focus highlights the details you will need to get the work done and reduces the mistakes you will make. To stay focused, be sure that what you are working on is worth your time and resource. That’s the key to avoid the regrets if there be any failure on the way.

MESSAGE

In this seemingly busy world, many things seem to catch our attention. There are so many things we would want to get finished over the shorted possible time. In trying to optimise the time, however, we tend to trade off the maximum impact what we were doing would have had.

There is a reason why we were created, that defines our purpose. They are ways we have thought of maximising our purpose; that defines our purpose. There are some things we can do; that defines our potential. But the secret to a lasting impact is balancing all these constituents. As a matter of truth, it takes being focused to get the best of what you have available.

“Stay focused and stay determined. Don’t look to anyone else to be your determination – have self-determination. It will take you very far.”, as noted by Justice Smith, an American actor. The best way to make it through this busy scheduled world every day is to stay focused. Know what you have, want, how to get it. The rest is getting focused on it.

TIME WITH WOMEN

By: Elsie Ofori-Mensah

Tit 2:3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

Father LORD, we are grateful for today. As we go through this write-up, please teach us to know and obey Your Will for our lives in Jesus’ Name Amen.

Our opening scripture today at our Ladies’ corner, is specifically instructing God’s older women on His “code of conduct” for us. I pray we put ourselves in the shoes of these “older women” Bible is taking about to further understand and live with this instruction.
We can relate with these women because i believe whatever stage we are in our journey with the LORD, we become models others look up to. With this in mind, please do not imagine this message is solely for the women’s fellowship of your Church. It came to you for a purpose, so i pray, that purpose is fulfilled.

Now, in living up to our full Potentials, can we imagine that God will love us to do so and consider ourselves as always living in His Sacred Assembly, with a Godly behaviour at our every move?
Here is what i’m driving at, that we are so conscious of God that, we want everything we “do and do not do” to Glorify Him.

Not just on the level of thoughts alone, but on that level where we consider Him to be the motive for *each* step we take.
That level where our walk, talk and work is directed to please Him alone at every moment in time, not to get the applauds of men, but to please Him.
When we do this, He will favour us in His sight and in the sight of men.

I pray we get this priority right, stay connected to the Vine..

Have a Blessed Weekend😘

Theme: The Conqueror’s Mentality

Text: Matthew 16:26

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

MESSAGE

You can be successful in so many endeavours in this world, but there is one thing that you need someone’s help to conquer. That is sin, with its wages being death. We had all sinned and fell short of the glory of God.

Death has no hold for those who are in Christ: He has destroyed death and holds the key to Hades. He can, therefore, give unto anyone who comes unto Him eternal life. God loves us so much that He wanted us to escape the condemnation that we brought upon ourselves through disobedience. So, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. Therefore, whoever believes in Him would not perish but have an everlasting life.

Beloved in the Lord, I cannot end this series on the conqueror’s mentality without stating that the conqueror always thinks about where he would be in the case he dies in the flesh. Is there any hope for me after my death? he asks himself often. You can gain everything in this world, but without Jesus, it is a waste. I end this series by entreating you to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal saviour if you have not (kindly follow the prayer below) and find a Bible-believing church to fellowship with. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling if you have already accepted Jesus.

Prayer

Thank you, Father, for sending your Son Jesus to come and die for me, a sinner. Jesus, I believe that you came to die for my sins and I accept you as my Lord and personal saviour. Thank you for qualifying me to be part of your family. Amen.

Text: 1 Samuel 17

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. (V48)

MESSAGE

Sometimes what you imagined may not be in reality match up to what you are facing in reality. You may have dealt with the threats of the challenge even without facing the challenge. For example, you can deal with the fear of writing an exam even before writing the exams.

At times, you may seem that your experience and skills cannot match up the challenge. But the mindset of the conqueror is not to quit. Quitters don’t win and winners don’t quit. With the valley between them, Goliath’s full threat may not have been fully realised by David. Upon facing the man, David mustered the courage to face Goliath. Goliath moved closer to attack, but David ran out to quickly to meet Him. Goliath seemed big and experienced, but the stone and the sling brought him down.

Don’t weigh the challenge by the size and years, but by the skills, experience and above all the God you serve. For you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Text: 1 Samuel 17

45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

MESSAGE

The journey gets no easier. Turbulence is the sign that you are flying higher. The more you get involved in the challenge, the more challenging it becomes. But do you just throw in the towel and affirm the intimidations from your peers and leaders?

When David faced the challenge, he had to overcome the threats. To overcome the threats of the challenge:

  1. Know whose you are. You belong to God. (V 45-46).
  2. Know the word of God.
  3. Create your own environment through positive confessions (V46)
  4. Check your motivation. To whom do you want the victory to go to. If you give the glory to God, then you are assured of victory (v47).

There is no limit to what God can do through you. The battle is yours to fight and God’s to give the victory. In the moments that God had to fight for the Israelites, He made them assemble and prepare men for war. Face the challenge and you will win through perseverance.

Theme: The Conquerors Mentality

Text: 1 Samuel 17

He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.  “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”

MESSAGE

Every challenge comes with its own threats. Apart from overcoming the threats from the peers, leaders, recognising opportunities, being reading to take the risk and knowing yourself, one also needs to overcome the threats of the challenge.

Dealing with the people who are not directly related to the challenge is not as difficult as the risks of the challenge itself. For the sake of your dignity or probably ego, you can stand still and defy all odds to get to the challenge. However, in handling the threats of the challenge, you need to be deeply convinced you are up to the task. The final threat that David had to face was that of the challenge, Goliath. Goliath mocked and yelled at David as he drew closer and sneered in contempt at the ruddy-faced boy.

The threats will come. Nothing worthwhile is gotten on the silver platter. It will come with its pain that needs to be overcome. If you mean serious business, then be ready to deal with the Goliath you have worked yourself out to conquer.

Text: 1 Samuel 17

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them.

“I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine. (V 38-40)

MESSAGE

It’s so easy to walk in the shoes of other people. It is just like making a meal with a recipe book. All you need to do is to follow the instructions.  It does not matter if you have ever cooked before; just read and obey the instructions.

To be a conqueror, you cannot just walk in the shadows of others. David was not used to Saul’s armour. He tried walking with it, but he could not. He was an armour bearer, but he could not use the armour (V38). He was used to his sling and stone. The fact that you have been following a leader does not mean you can do exactly what they are doing. The most difficult task is to be something you are not.

Beloved, be yourself. Identify what makes you unique and capitalise on that.  Yes, you have tried walking in your predecessor’s armour, but you just can’t walk in it. The key to conquering is to know yourself; know what works best for you. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. It’s time to put off Saul’s armour and use your Shepherd’s sling.
